Monod Kinetics Calculator

Specific growth rate & substrate saturation
How to use: pick a model, then either enter µmax/Ks/S to compute the specific growth rate, or switch to Fit from data and paste substrate–rate pairs to estimate µmax and Ks.

Live batch explorer — watch µ walk down the curve

The curve above is a snapshot at one substrate concentration. This runs a whole batch culture on the same µmax and Ks: biomass grows, substrate drains, and the yellow operating point slides down the saturation curve in real time. Drag the dashed SAMPLE line across the time plot (or focus it and use the arrow keys) to read any moment of the batch. Every control updates the numbers as you move it — Run batch just replays it from t = 0.

The Monod curve at a glance
Monod saturation curve Specific growth rate mu versus limiting substrate concentration S. The curve rises steeply at low S and saturates toward mu max at high S. Ks is the substrate concentration where mu equals half of mu max. Substrate concentration, S Specific growth rate, μ μmax μmax/2 Ks μ = μmax · S/(Ks+S)
Monod saturation: µ rises with S and plateaus at µmax; Ks is the S giving half-maximal growth.
