BioProcess Tools is a free site of bioprocess calculators. We try to keep our analytics setup minimal and respectful of your data. This page explains exactly what we collect and how to opt out.

What we collect

• Page views and session activity — which calculators you open, which presets you click, when you export results.
• Session recordings and heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity). We use Microsoft Clarity, a third-party analytics service, to capture anonymised session recordings and heatmaps (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling) so we can see where our tools confuse people and fix them. Clarity masks the text you type by default. See Microsoft's privacy statement.
• Tool inputs at the category level — for example, "the user selected CHO and a 2 L bioreactor." We use this to understand which organisms, vessels, and applications are most useful to our audience. We do not store the numeric values you type (volumes, densities, concentrations, etc.).
• Coarse device info — browser, OS family, language, country derived from your browser language.
• A hashed IP — your IP address is one-way hashed (SHA-256) before storage, used only for de-duplication.

What we do not collect

• No advertising or cross-site ad trackers (Facebook Pixel, advertising cookies, etc.). For traffic and usability analytics we use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
• No cross-site tracking. We don't know what other sites you visit.
• No personal identifiers unless you explicitly subscribe to our newsletter, in which case we only store the email and the preferences you select.

Cookies and storage

• bpt_sid — a random session identifier stored in your browser's localStorage. Rolls over after 30 minutes of inactivity.
• bpt_consent_dismissed — set to 1 when you dismiss the cookie banner.
• bp_notrack — set to 1 if you opt out (see below). When present, no tracking events are sent.
• _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies that measure traffic (new vs returning visits, sessions).
• _clck, _clsk, CLID — Microsoft Clarity cookies that link session recordings and de-duplicate visitors.

Opt out

You can opt out of analytics tracking entirely. Once opted out, no tracking events are sent from your browser.

Newsletter subscribers

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email and the topics you selected. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by emailing hello@bioprocesstools.com.

Browser "Do Not Track"

If your browser sends the Do Not Track (DNT) signal, our analytics honour it automatically and no events are sent. This includes Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.
